About Aldara
It is estimated that 20-40% of the population is infected with the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), the virus that causes venereal or genital warts. Recent studies show that women with genital warts located on their cervix may have a higher risk of developing cervical cancer. Genital warts are extremely contagious and are transmitted through sexual, including skin-to-skin, contact. Some infected individuals never exhibit any symptoms (warts) at all yet may still transmit the disease!
While there is no cure for genital warts, there is treatment. Aldara is the most commonly prescribed medication for treatment of genital warts.
How to use Aldara
Use it exactly as the doctor prescribed it. Aldara is to be applied at bedtime for 3 days each week. It should be left on for 6-10 hours then washed off with mild soap and water. This treatment is repeated at weekly intervals for a maximum of 4 weeks.
Aldara Side Effects
The most common side effects include inflammation, swelling, burning, pain, itching or scabbing. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist if any of these occur and become uncomfortable or intolerable.
Contraindications
There are NO known absolute contraindications to the use of Aldara.
